Best Available Alternative for Kawasaki KLX150 throttle cable for the non- stock carburetors

the stock choke cable

remove the plastic part by using grinder
If you are doing your research of what other carburetors that can be used to replace the stock NCV Keihin carburetor I am pretty sure that you will bump into Keihin PE28, PWK28, Mikuni VM26 and much more.

Most people choose to use other throttle body and throttle cable for carburetors other than the stock because clearly you cannot use the stock cable for NCV as it is very different and if you still want to use it, you just have to modify the end or tip of the stock cable by making it smaller to fit the insertion on the needle body of carburetors like the Keihin PE28.

Well I have an alternative of other cable that can be used perfectly and the cable actually comes from the stock carburetor itself which is the choke cable, yes the choke cable of the stock.

adjust and cut the outer of the cable according to throttle that you use
First you have to remove the plastic part from the cable that connects to the choke ‘switch’ on the left of your handle bar. You can use grinder to make the process fast but you have to be very careful not to grind the cable inside the plastic.

The other tip fits perfectly for any carburetors that are using needle therefore there’s no need to modify it. After the plastic part has been removed completely, you have to measure and cut small portion of the outer layer of the cable so it will fit perfectly to the throttle body that you are going to use and in this case I am using Yamaha TZM throttle of the Yamaha YZ throttle.
fits perfectly
fits exactly below the tank without any interruptions
Once everything goes right you can install the complete throttle set to your Kawasaki klx150 and ride away. Don’t forget to oil the cable for smooth pull and release. Happy riding!

The Only Stock Clutch Housing Modifications that Works on Kawasaki KLX140 or KLX150s So Far

stock klx150 clutch housing

Experimenting with my Kawasaki KLX150 is what I love to do. The one and only reason why is because I want my KLX150 to be the most comfortable and easiest bike one can ride and in this case the one is referring to me. One of the thing that I do is trying to make the bike as light as possible by reducing the unnecessary parts for example the rubber on the foot pegs (this may cause slippery especially during off road riding), the indicators, the rear mudguard and also by replacing the stock part to a much lighter aftermarket for example the alloys rims and alloy handle bar.

One day I saw some tips from Indonesian riders on how to mess with the stock clutch housing for Kawasaki KLX150 from the internet throughout my random search and it made me think about it. Well I can say that it was my brave experiment on my own KLX150 as I thought to myself “if I don’t do this now, then when will I…” I saw how the Indonesian riders are actually doing the modifications on their own bike and I am pretty much sure that the tips that they showed is going to work one way or another.

The modifications on the stock clutch housing is made by drilling some holes on the clutch plate base and the holes are organized by following zigzag pattern (or something representing the action of zigzagging). I thought to myself that this modifications is going to work and surprisingly it did and excel up until today. Well the purpose of doing the zigzag drilling or holes is actually to let the oil come reaching the clutch plate to avoid those plates getting dry and to keep the clutching as smooth as possible and again let me repeat IT TRULY WORKS!

I’ve been riding my KLX150 for quite a time especially for extra rough off road riding after the stock clutch housing modifications or should I say drillings and it never lets me down. I can feel the smoothness of the clutching and I don’t have to worry about any clutch slips because it never happens, yes let me repeat THE CLUTCH SLIPS NEVER HAPPEN AFTER I DRILLED THE CLUTCH HOUSING BASE!

And after searching in the internet on racing clutch housing I found out this famous brand known as REKLUSE (I am pretty much sure you have heard of it too). It’s a very common name among professional rider in motocross or enduro cross riding and even for on road extreme riding. What amazed me the most is as I go through REKLUSE racing products I found out that they are having the same drilling pattern on their products and I thought if REKLUSE is doing this meaning I am on the right track all along. It is a very nice feeling to know that we are doing a beneficial modifications on our bike.
stock and racing clutch housing side by side
So my advice is if you guys out there wanna try the same stock clutch housing modifications just go ahead because it’s not gonna affect the performance instead you will feel the smoothness once you pull the clutch lever. And one more thing this modifications or shall I say drillings is going to save your money for the cost of buying a new clutch plate every time they worn out because this modifications will make your clutch plate last even longer.

YSS Pre- Load Mono Shock made for Kawasaki KLX150s

I believe this is something most Kawasaki KLX150s riders out there wanna hear. Yes I knew that we've been messing around with the stock SHOWA mono shock and definitely that wasn't enough.

And so recently I got myself a YSS mono shock especially made for Kawasaki KLX150s. It's a pre load and not fully adjustable but that's all that I can afford to have since I wanna try myself other brand than the stock shock. YSS has come with this latest technology in their pre load absorber but I am not really sure what the specifications are. Actually YSS has the fully adjustable version of Kawasaki KLX150s mono shock but it is not available in the place where I live. You guys can check it on your own at YSS website for further information.

So far it feels great, I've tried it off road and on tracks. In term of compression I can say that the YSS is stiffer if to compared to the stock SHOWA. Other than that, I noticed the differences of the 2 shocks in term of size and weight. The YSS is much smaller and lighter but still maintain the same length. The coil is not as thick as the SHOWA has and that is why it looks a bit small once I installed it on my KLX150s.

The installation is quite easy, you just need the right tools to get the job done and maybe you need a friend to help you to lift the bike so that you can insert the bolt to lock the shock together with your KLX150s. The package comes with a small bar that you may need to adjust the stiffness of the shock at the lower part of the shock and also an allen key for you to unlock and lock the adjustment part that I have mentioned.

don't judge the mono by its size

I've tried to put my hand in between the space of the shock and the swingarm and my hand can get through. And if you want to put your hand the same way with the stock SHOWA, your hand will not go through, that's how I wanna explain how small the mono is. Well, you can see it for yourself from the picture above the space between the shock and the swingarm clearance.

Owh yeah I forgot to mention that I bought it for around USD150 or RM450 (Ringgit Malaysia 450)

Beware of The Fast Throttle

Yamaha TZM150 fast throttle on my Kawasaki KLX150

This is something that not everyone is aware of. The usage of a  fast throttle is one way of improving your bike performance and especially at the torque or pick up. If you wanna know why it is known as fast throttle is because you don't have to twist your throttle the way you twist it with your conventional or stock throttle. A fast throttle only need you to pull half the stock throttle to get the maximum result.

The first time I got my hand on one of this marvel I thought to myself "why didn't I know about this amazing throttle before?". The best part is you can feel the pick up of your bike especially at 1st gear. Well, it helps me a lot during off road riding especially when I encountered difficult terrain and it helps a lot too in tracks. I just love the convenience of pulling the throttle without pulling much the way with stock throttle. And of course during installation you need to adjust the throttle cable a little, well you can even use the stock throttle cable with minor modifications. The installation is easy when you know what to do.

The most popular fast throttle would be Yamaha TZM150 throttle. It can be used in many bikes and very easy to do the maintenance too especially when we want to oil the throttle cable after a long rough dusty and dirty ride. I have installed at least 5 of these amazing throttle including on my 2 bikes.

There are many other brands of fast throttle out there with different prices and designs yet still delivering the same awesome function. Some of them are equipped with electrical starter but there will be extra works to do to connect them to your bike. My advice is to get the one like I am having in the picture as you don't wanna mess with the electrical of your bikes because a simple mistake can cause your bike to under perform like what had happened to a friend of mine.

So if you are looking forward to try a fast throttle, just get yourself one as it may cost you only around USD15 or cheaper. I bet you would feel the difference the way I do and please be aware that you might enjoy your bike not the same way you used to be.

Kawasaki KLX150s Engine Oil Change

It is always better to use what is the recommended engine oil for Kawasaki KLX150s which is a liter of 10W-40 fully synthetic. And it is better for you to change the oil regularly if you know that you are going off roads most of the weeks in a month. A friend of mine which is a mechanic told me that if we are going for a long distance ride on road, we should be using thicker engine oil for example 20W-40 synthetic so that when the engine got hotter than the way it shouldn’t be, thicker oil won’t get dried very quick which can damage your engine especially the piston and the engine block. I saw it happened in front of my very eyes how dry engine oil cause terrible damage to KLX150s engine during me and my friends 5000 kilometres go and return expedition from Kuching, Sarawak to Kudat in Sabah.
Kawasaki genuine oil filter for KLX150s

One more thing, make sure that you are using the original oil filter made especially for Kawasaki KLX150s and not other filter that looks the same from the outside but totally different from the inside which is meant for other motorcycles. If you fail to use the right filter, the engine oil might not fully reach through and lubricate some of the crucial components in the engine itself for example the piston related parts which can cause bad damages to the piston for example scratches that will reduce the performance of your machine and at the end will cause you a lot of money for repairing.

Useful Accessories for Your Kawasaki KLX150 or D Tracker 150

Accessories are compulsory for serious rider no matter what the ride is. Choosing and committing yourself to buy those accessories for your ride or bike will eventually lift the rider to the next level of self achievement and satisfaction.
Kawasaki KLX150s and D Tracker 150 are not exceptions, there's a lot of accessories out there related to this wonderful machine that help to boost it's performance, looks and integrity. Listed below are some of them which you as KLX150s and D Tracker 150 riders should take into serious attention as they can provide more benefits than we can really think of.

This is the 'frame cover' meant for kawasaki klx150s and D tracker 150 as both mean machines share the same frame design. Fit and blend just right in and they are very easy to be installed on your machine.

When your are riding or trailing with your bike and you are wearing MX boots, you will not notice how much the boots could cause damages and scratches to your frame as you slide your boots while controlling your KLX150s or D tracker.

Well, this is when the 'frame guard' come in handy as they protect your frame left and right from the damage and scratch and of course will prolong the life of the frame especially and the bike generally. Your boots as I mentioned earlier will slide or might knock only the frame guards and the impact of the hit will not directly go to your loyal frame.

Well, you can actually have one set of these beneficial and useful 'frame guard' for only RM120 (Ringgit Malaysia 120 only) not including the postage as customer or YOU should handle the postage charge on your own cost. If you wanna have them you can contact me via phone at the number 0128930038 and I can get them for you. The 'frame guard' installation is very easy as ABC and 123.

I have posted 3- 4 of this 'frame guard' so far and one of the rider that care would be Mr. Apiez Azry from Semenyih Selangor.

The second "must have" KLX150s or D tracker 150 accessory would be this wonderful 'engine cover'. The name express the vital function clearly, which is to protect and to enslave your engine from any damage during your ride especially in the rough and tough trails that serve rocks and other hard objects for example logs and stones.

This is how the 'engine guard' is installed to your mean machine. They are 2 parts, the one in the screen right now is the front right and left hand side parts.

And this would be the lower part that will protect your engine the most. The installation is very easy and you can actually install them yourself without any problems. All you need is determination, yeah, determination and that's it.

The price of this 'engine guard' is RM190 (Ringgit Malaysia 190) and postage charge is not included. Therefore buyer need to pay for the postage via Poslaju. I am gonna "poslaju it!!". Again you can text/ sms me at the number 0128930038 (please do text/ sms me because normally I don't take calls from strangers/ number that is not in my phone..sorry..)

So far, I have posted 3-4 of these to various places around Malaysia namely UTM Skudai, Johor (as shown in the Poslaju receipt above, by the name of Muhammad Izzhar Abdullah), Limbang and Sabah. You can also see the engine guard in mudah.my in the region of Sarawak by typing "kawasaki klx 150s" in the 'other accessories' segment in mudah.my. Protect your machine before it's too late!!
